Which Moving Estimate Websites Can you Trust?

by | Aug 12, 2026 | Protecting yourself

Using a moving cost estimate platform is the most efficient way to get multiple quotes for your move so that you can compare prices and movers.

But when you put your moving details into a cost estimation website, how do you know where that information goes? Will you be bombarded by non-stop calls from movers? Do they sell your information to third parties?

Those are legitimate concerns that many people have, so we thought we would look at just how trustworthy moving cost comparison websites are.

Disclaimer: There is nothing scientific about the way we evaluated different websites, and we did not try to get quotes from them (we did not want to get inundated with calls either).

What we have done is look for sites:

  • that had been in business for many years
  • were respected within the industry
  • that gave you the option to call or fill out a web form
  • where your data is shared with no more than 4 movers
  • who expressly state they do not share your data with thrid parties

One important thing to note: some well-known sites market themselves as privacy-friendly, but their legal wording tells a different story. We have taken what is written in the privacy policy/consent language as nearer the truth than what the marketing says.

Why do Quote Forms Need Your Information?

Most people are wary of sharing their details online, but there is a minimum amount of information that is needed to be able to match you with a mover and provide an accurate quote:

  • Moving date – to ensure that the mover has availability
  • Pick up & Destination – this ensures that the mover services this route
  • Size of move – not all movers will carry out small moves, for example
  • Your Name – to personalize your quote
  • Your telephone number – so that the quote can be discussed
  • Your email address – so that you get the quote and important information in writing

None of these platforms matched our criteria exactly, but they were the closest, and they are all worthy of inclusion in this list.

Where they failed to meet the criteria, we have stated that and deducted points accordingly.

1. iMoving.com

iMoving has been operating for 10 years, and its team has decades of moving-industry experience. It has a real customer-service number and sales team.

The site currently promotes: “Shop for quotes without giving away your email or phone number.”

Users can browse and compare movers through its marketplace rather than having their contact details distributed as a conventional moving lead.

Its Privacy Policy also says: “We do not rent or sell your personal information to any third party.”

There are normal exceptions for affiliates, payment/service providers, and services the consumer requests, but that is much stronger wording than we found on several competitors.

Verdict: One of the best choices for someone worried about spam calls or their contact information becoming a moving lead. We deducted one point because we could not find whether affiliates were bound by the same data sharing rules.

2. Moveadvisor

Moveadvisor has been helping people move home for the last 18 years, has a strong reputation in the industry, and has been quoted in many reputable publications.

There is a telephone number for people who wish to be instantly connected with a mover, bypassing the need to fill out the quote form.

They expressly say that your details will be shared with no more than 4 movers.

The site also states that movers in the network are vetted for licensing, insurance, reputability, and industry experience.

Verdict: The top choice if you want to get an instant quote from a verified and licensed mover over the phone. They lose a star because, in the Privacy Policy wording, it says: “quote-form information is “forwarded/sold” to moving companies and brokers and goes on to say that, in some cases, those companies or brokers may forward or resell the information to other moving companies.

3. HireAHelper.com

HireAHelper has been operating since 2007, and says more than one million moves have been completed through the platform. They provide telephone support seven days a week.

It also scores highly from the no-spam-calls perspective. It says: “Three steps. No spam, no surprises, no calling around for quotes.”

You enter the move details, HireAHelper displays available providers and prices, and you select the mover yourself.

However, HireAHelper is part of Porch Moving Group. Its February 2026 Privacy Policy says it doesn’t generally sell or rent personal information, but it does permit sharing with Porch Group companies, service providers, and certain partners, including for some marketing purposes. We have deducted 1 star for that.

Verdict: Very good protection against being bombarded by competing movers, although its corporate privacy policy is wider than the simple booking process might suggest.

4. Moving.com

Moving.com has a more traditional quote-comparison model but puts a limit on the number of companies contacting you.

Its current quote form says users may be contacted by: “up to four companies” by phone, text, or email.

The site is operated by Move, Inc., whose Moving.com pages carry copyright dates going back to 1999, and it publishes a customer-service telephone number rather than hiding behind a quote form.

It also says movers in the network are vetted for licensing, insurance, and industry experience.

Verdict: A good example of a traditional web-based quote form, and are transparent about how many companies may contact you. One point deducted because we like to see actual users’ reviews of the movers who are giving you a quote.

5. Movers.com

Movers.com is one of the oldest services we found. It says it has been around since 1994, with the current business relaunched by NGA Group in 2003. It also says companies are screened using licensing, insurance, and reputation information.

The company says personal information is “never sold to unrelated third parties.”

Its user agreement goes even further, saying participating vendors are prohibited from selling or disclosing consumers’ information to other third parties without consent.

You can call Movers.com and have a representative take the moving details over the phone rather than completing an online form.

However, Movers.com currently says consumers can be connected with up to five movers.

Verdict: Good privacy assurances and a very long track record. Loses one point because it shares the data with up to 5 movers.

6. moveBuddha.com

moveBuddha was founded in 2015 and has built a good reputation as a moving research and comparison website.

There’s one particularly good privacy feature: You can use its moving-cost calculator without entering an email address.

However, once users provide their contact information for mover enquiries, its Terms say that phone numbers and email addresses may be shared with “Movers” so that those movers can contact the consumer. We couldn’t find a guarantee limiting that to four companies.

Verdict: Excellent if you’re researching moving costs without giving your contact information. Loses one point because it does not state how many movers your information is shared with.

So, Which Moving Estimate Website Should You Trust?

The biggest takeaway from our research is that not all moving-estimate websites handle your information the same way.

Some let you compare prices without sharing your contact details at all, while others may pass your information to several moving companies and, in some cases, allow it to be shared again.

Before entering your phone number or email address, it is worth checking out the site’s privacy policy, not just the promises made on the quote form.

A reputable moving website should be clear about who receives your information, how many companies may contact you, and what happens to your data afterwards.
